Critical Praise for The Mars Run

Reader Views - Paige Lovitt called it "great space opera" and was impressed with the characterization.  Her review concludes with, "I highly recommend this book to science fiction fans.  You will enjoy the futuristic yet realistic aspects of the tale while you watch Janet evolve into a force to be reckoned with."

Bookreview.com - Paul Lappen said, "This is a first novel that is actually pretty good. In space, sometimes man is the biggest enemy. It is not a young adult novel, and it is worth reading."  Note: this site does not create permanent links, so please search on "Gerrib" to read the review.

The SF Reader web site posted a 3-star review of The Mars Run on November 8, 2006. The reviewer, Eric Turner, said in part, "Gerrib does a wonderful job of clearly defining the parameters of his futuristic universe, making it a believable and a gritty reflection of our own world." Here's the link for the whole thing.

Jeff Duntemann - SF author and publisher Jeff Duntemann likes The Mars Run.  Jeff says "[Chris} has an intuitive grasp of the criminal mind" (not sure that my Mom would approve of that) and that he would have "gladly read it at twice the length."  Click here to read the review.

Gloomwing - David W. Hoffman said, "The Mars Run is one of those books that grabs hold of you and refuses to let go."  Like my other reviewers, he was impressed by my characters, and called it "a fascinating read."  Visit here to read his review and some reader comments.

Ron Miller (Hugo-nominated artist & writer) "It reads very much like a three-way cross between early Heinlein, Joe Haldeman and Allen Steele," and [the heroine] is tough, resourceful, likeable and altogether realistic and who she is and what she becomes is really what the book is all about."  Visit here to read the whole thing!

Julie Ann Dawson, writer, publisher and general Renaissance woman, likes The Mars Run.  She said,  "Presents and interesting twist on the standard space travel fare."  She likes the subtle presentation of future technology, and says, "Overall, The Mars Run will appeal to readers looking for a sense of action and adventure in their fiction choices."  Click here to read the entire review!

TCM Reviews - Jocelyn Pearce likes The Mars Run.  She said, "it really pulls you in," and "definitely will be enjoyed by fans of science fiction."  Click here to read the entire review!

The Mars Run - A Science Fiction Novel

This novel (click here to read) was originally written in 2001.  Warning - explicit sex and language!

In 2071, Janet Pilgrim, a recent high school graduate, suddenly finds herself unable to afford college, thanks to her father's financial mismanagement.  Faced with the fear of dying of embarrassment if she goes to a junior college, she looks for a way out.  After considering joining the Army, she stumbles on the solution to her problems – becoming an astronaut on a commercial space ship.

But by 2071, “astronaut” is only slightly more glamorous then “truck driver” is today.  But the money is good, and one run to Mars  - the "armpit of the Solar System" will fund several years of college.  Even better, she won’t have to face her friends. Unfortunately, being an astronaut can be dangerous, as she discovers when a friend dies in a training accident, the first of many dangers.

I think you’ll find The Mars Run to be a fun and exciting read.  Of course, I’m biased – I wrote it!  Click here to read the entire novel online or get "author's extras" about the book.

Tips

This site doesn't have a tip jar.  First, I do have a day job, so I've got an income.  Second, confirmed sales are more important to me then cash.  So if you feel motivated, click on the Lulu link and buy a download.  I get a few bucks, as does Lulu (they earned it) and a sale.
